First Commercial Scratched Glass Repair Project – 2005
First Widespread Scratched Glass Repair Job
This was our first commercial scratched glass repair project in December 2005. It was for Morley Builders at the Getty Villa Cafe (Malibu, CA). It was laminated tempered glass. From what I remember, it was around $100,000 just to purchase new glass! What happened was, they did a polished concrete floor inside and out and some careless cleaners scratched both sides of the glass. When they poured the concrete, some splashed on large areas of glass and when they wiped it down with wet towels, the glass became completely scratched. Probably not a good idea to keep using the same water for too long when doing that! We were still using the SRP (Novus) machines back then!

What a nightmare for big commercial scratched glass repair jobs! We sanded the scratches out with 80 grit silicon carbide, pre polished with 400 and polished the glass clear with the SRP machines. One of the guys only job was to keep the polishing slurry buckets cool by putting the bucket in 30 gallon garbage cans filled with ice! We weren’t even using Makita’s yet, just the cheap $29.00 sanders from Harbor Freight. Funny, looking back on how we used to do it. Not sure if SRP machines are even still a thing anymore. I sold all the ones I had a long, long time ago. There are obviously many ways to successfully have glass scratch removal. We’ve evolved over time, striving to be fastest scratched glass repair and obtaining the best visual result. A goal which we have achieved.
